Be it Pakhi Mor, who is suffering from brain problem after meeting with an accident, or be it Satwik and Ritwik Kharwade, having cerebral palsy ailment, they share somethings common. Braving the odd, all the three have excelled in their respective examinations -- Pakhi in HSC, while Satwik and Ritwik in SSC. People around them, their parents, faculty and fellow students in their respective school, college all have supported them. Their kith and kin at times sacrificed their personal lives for their children and to see them do well. And, the result is -- Pakhi scored 95.96% marks to secure top position in Arts stream while Ritwik and Satwik 88% and 81.4% marks respectively.

Pakhi Mor who studied in Hislop College, secured top spot in HSC in Arts stream. Hers is a very interesting saga. She was absolutely normal child till 2017. While returning from coaching, Pakhi met with an accident sustaining severe head injury. She was rushed to Neuron Hospital. Dr Pramod Giri, noted Neurosurgeon attended to Pakhi who was diagnosed with fronto temporo parietal subdural haematoma with femur bone fracture. Dr Giri operated upon her in emergency. Post-operation, she was kept on ventilator for about 10 days. She showed signs of recovery after battling for life in the ICU for almost 14 days. Aruni Mor, father of Pakhi told ‘The Hitavada’, “She started talking afterwards but had short-time memory. Gradually, we started accepting the fact.

Physiotherapy played a major role along with speech therapy. Dr Giri was very much optimistic and that helped us to boost ourselves.” Prachi Mor, Pakhi’s mother is an practicing Architect stopped her work and focussed on Pakhi. From July 2018 onwards, Pakhi started reading science books, notes. Sachi Agrawal, a student studying in Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management, friend of Mahika, elder sister of Pakhi, started coming to meet Pakhi. Sachi also took lot of interest in teaching Pakhi. She taught her simplifying the concept. Pakhi’s grasping was perfect. She was able to recollect formulae. “All went well. Suddenly, in July 2019, Pakhi complained of tremors. We brought it to the notice of Hislop College that did co-operate. Meanwhile, she had opted for Political Science, Psychology, Philosophy. In September, Pakhi did not feel well and we had to take her to NIMHANS, Bengaluru for neuro psychological treatment.

There was lot of improvement in her and we decided to let her appear in examination. The result is in front of everybody,” said Aruni Mor. Dr Giri said, “It is very difficult for such patients to live life fully normal. But Pakhi is really a wonderful child. Every parent would crave to have such a ward. Medically speaking, people with such problems face so many problems. But her parents took a lot of efforts. I salute them. She was bedridden for almost 6 months. Now, she is talking fluently, walking without support, living her life independently.” Dr Dipti Christian, Principal of Hislop College told ‘The Hitavada’, “Pakhi is really wonderful child. We feel honoured to have Pakhi as our student. Fighting with all adversaries, she stood topper and brought laurel to the college. I feel she is real topper.” The cerebral palsy twins Ritwik and Satwik Kharwade both twins have a premature birth with low weight. For long time they stayed in incubator. After six months Mangesh and Latika, their parents realised both are suffering from Cerebral Palsy when doctor diagnosed. Till now both had not heard about this disease. Both parents with heavy hearts accepted the fact and a new life began.

“We made rounds to several doctors to find out solution. In Nagpur Dr Viraj Shingade performed surgery for muscle relaxation, that helped us to improve,” Mangesh Kharwade changed the job and went to Delhi. His family back home at Nagpur joined him for vacation. There they came across Dr Mansoor Alam, a specialist in Cerebral Palsi. He asked Kharwade family to bring certain changes in the life style of Satwik and Ritwik. As a part of treatment both were supposed to stay at Delhi. Kharwade family sought permission from TBRAN Mundle English School and school agreed.

Most part of Class VIII and IX of both the children was spent in Delhi. Dr Alam’s treatment worked and both got benefited. Ritwik plays Tabla well. Both Satwik and Ritwik produced a comedy show. Mangesh Kharwade says, his wife Latika made both the children think positive about life. Elder son Mayuresh who is doing CA has sacrificed his educational career a bit. He being a Vice-President (Commercial) of Jindal Polyfilm Limited, Mangesh Kharwade could not pay much attention to them. Both Latika and Mayuresh monitored the life of Satwik and Ritwik.

Be it Mor or Kharwade family both at first felt why God gave them punishment. But later on they thought on the lines of Arthur Ash, legendary Tennis Player who suffered from dreaded disease. He had taken up it as challenge and asked himself that God was trying him. These parents too took the task positively and told themselves, probably God must have thought they were capable of grooming such children. At the same time they attribute the credit to their children be it Pakhi or Satwik and Ritwik. Had these children not been positive, picture would have been different, felt their parents.
