St Joseph Co-Ed School’s student Riya Jain won second prize in the National Painting Competition in the category of class VI to X. Only three students were selected in each category from all over India and one among them was Riya. This competition was held in Bhopal on the occasion of Earth Day on April 22, on the theme ‘Protect Our Species’.
She was awarded on July 27 on the occasion of Foundation Day of Ministry of Earth Science, Government of India, at Vigyan Bhawan New Delhi, by Dr Harshvardhan, incumbent minister at Ministry of Science & Technology. She was awarded with a gold memento and a certificate. Riya learns painting under the guidance of Raj Saini at Jawahar Bal Bhawan. She has made painting on the topic ‘Protect Our Species’ in which she has depicted that the animals are being extinct due to urbanisation, industrialization, deforestation and killing of animals for their body parts.
Riya said “I have participated in many painting competitions, so I took part in this competition too on April 22 in the state capital and after the results of the competition it was told that the winners’ painting will be sent to New Delhi. I was selected for the National painting competition and this news was just like a surprise for me.” Riya has won total 115 prizes in painting, science model making, writing, speaking, skating, karate, abacus competitions.
She has also received prize from Governor and Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. She has won total 71 prizes in the painting competition. She has won total seven prizes at the international level, 28 prizes at national level and 80 prizes at district level in various competitions. She is black belt in Karate.
