Following continuous rain in the catchments of the Bargi Dam, huge inflow is recorded in the reservoir. Accordingly, the dam authorities have increased water discharge from the reservoir. On Sunday, the authorities have increased water discharge to 4,300 cumec by opening 15 gates to 1.77 meters average height to maintain water level into the reservoir. Earlier, 1916 cumec water was being released from 9 gates. Executive Engineer, Dam Site Control Room, Bargi Dam, Ajay Soore informed that the water level of the dam was recorded at 422.95 metre at 9.30 pm.

At present huge water is entering into the dam. He said 200 cumec water would continue to be released from the dam for electricity production units. Apart from that water is also released from both Left and Right Bank canal. In total, 4300 cumec water has been released from the Dam through 15 gates. Due to low pressure area and cyclonic circulation persists over the State, moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated in the catchments of the dam. Moderate showers have been lashing the villages and jungle situated adjoining the reservoir. With continuous rainfall Bargi dam has filled to the capacity.

The dam authorities have increased water discharge to maintain required water level in the reservoir. The dam authorities have been keeping constant eye over the inflow and maintaining water level by adjusting the height of gates. As rain stops in the catchments area of the dam, it is anticipated that the water discharge might be decreased on Monday. Meanwhile, heavy water discharge from the dam has flooded river Narmada. All banks of the river are submerged into flood water. The district administration has sounded alert in low lying areas and river banks and has appealed people to keep distanced from river banks. The Weather Department has released forecast of rain or thundershowers in some parts of the district in next 24 hours.
