“Aryabhatta was an acclaimed mathematician-astronomer. He was born in 476 AD in Kusumapura or Patliputra (present day Patna) in Bihar. His contribution to mathematics, science and astronomy is immense, and yet he has not been accorded the recognition in the world history of science. ‘Aryabhatta Astronomy Park’ coming up in Chauky village in Hingana tehsil of Nagpur district is the effort to pay gratitude to this great scientist,” said Acharya Dr Bhupesh Gadge, founder of Omkareshwar Jyotish Akhada. Dr Gadge had established Shri Shani Shaktipeeth in Shri Kshetra Chouki, a small villlage surrounded by hillocks neat Kanholibara in Hingna tehsil. Chauki is the village where an ancient temple of Lord Bruhaspati is situated. Recently the Shri Shani Shaktipeeth was established in this village and Dr Gadge has decided to set up a unique Aryabhatt Astronomy Park in the premises.

In addition, the installation of Rinamukteshwari Neela Devi, wife of Lord Shani Dev will be held on the occasion of Mouni Amavsya on January 24. Dr Gadge stated, “A huge statue of Aryabhatt will be installed in this area. Astronomy is the ancient science and Aryabhatta is considered as a father of Astronomy. At the age of 24, he wrote his famed “Aryabhatiya”.

He was aware of the concept of zero, as well as the use of large numbers up to 1018. He was the first to calculate the value for ‘pi’ accurately to the fourth decimal point. He devised the formula for calculating areas of triangles and circles. He calculated the circumference of the earth as 62,832 miles, which is an excellent approximation, and suggested that the apparent rotation of the heavens was due to the axial rotation of the earth on its axis. He was the first known astronomer to devise a continuous counting of solar days, designating each day with a number.

He asserted that the planets shine due to the reflection of sunlight, and that the eclipses occur due to the shadows of moon and earth. His observations discount the “flat earth” concept, and lay the foundation for the belief that earth and other planets orbit the sun. The astronomy park named after Aryabhatt will help the scientists to study the work of this great scientist.” The event of installation of idol of Neela Devi and statue of Aryabhatt will be held on the occasion of Mouni Amavsya. Dr Gadge mentioned, “This place has been recognised as Shri Shani Shaktipeeth.

On January 24, on the occasion of Mauni Amavsya, Saturn (shani) is changing its sign and transiting from Sagittarius to Capricorn. It will remain in this sign for two and a half years. This transit is taking place on the occasion of Mauni Amavsya after 90 years. Shani is considered as a justice. It has a capacity to elevate a person up to the level of a king or downfall of a king as beggar.

According to Brahmapuran, Shani was married with a daughter of Chitrarath named Neeladevi. Neeladevi has been considered as a great devotee and strong wife of Shani. There are number of temples of Shani found across the world, but there is only one temple in Kariyamma village in Kavadkatha district of Chhatisgarh where the idols of Shani and Neeladevi are found. Shri Shani Shaktipeeth in chauki also installs the idol of Neeladevi, wife of Shani in its premises.”
