Prompt action of police averted the clash on Republic Day

Stone-pelting incident on Tiranga Yatra created chaos amongst residents and members of two groups confronted at Raddi Chowki area. Prompt action of police averted the clash and managed to maintain law and order arrangements in the city on January 26. Heavy police deployment was made and police used light cane charge and fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. Collector Bharat Yadav and Superintendent of Police Amit Singh along with other senior police and administrative officers and additional police force reached the spot and monitored the law and order arrangements.

Senior officers extended appeal towards residents to maintain peace in the area and co-operate the police in maintenance of law and order arrangements. The incident took place when Tiranga Yatra was taken out on the occasion of 71st Republic Day. The rally was passing through Raddi Chowki area when members of other community pelted stones. Participants of Tiranga Yatra expressed their agitation and tried to change the route of rally and entering the area where people of a community were staging demonstration against CAA and NRC.

Talking with media, District Magistrate and Collector Bharat Yadav said that permission of Tiranga Yatra was given for specified route but the rally was tried to be diverted towards another route. After the intervention of administrative and police officers, the rally was returning on its route when some notorious elements pelted stones on the rally and chaos created in the area. He said that the district administration will not give permission for rallies and demonstrations to avoid unnecessary disturbance in law and order arrangements and inconvenience of general public. Collector Yadav said that the situation is under control under police and administration and any kind of provocative action will not be tolerated for maintaining law and order arrangements in the city.
