A moot court competition constitutes of a replication exercise aimed at building the advocacy skills in students to become confident lawyers in the future by stimulating the real-world environment of the court rooms.
The Symbiosis Law School (SLS), Nagpur, a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), is organising its ever first national moot court competition. The competition will be held from January 31, to February 2. Prof. Dr Siddharthavinayak P. Kane, Vice Chancellor, Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University will be the chief guest. Adv Firdos Mirza, lawyer Bombay High Court, Nagpur Bench will be the guest of honour. The moot court competition will witness the participation of 20 teams consisting of 60 students in total from several parts of India, ranging from the state of Assam to the state of Tamil Nadu. Each team is composed of two speakers and a researcher.
There are two preliminary rounds in this moot court competition. Out of the 20 teams, the top eight teams from the preliminary rounds will qualify for the quarter-final round. Based on a knock-out, four teams from the quarter-finals will qualify for the semi-finals which subsequently leads to two teams to contest the finals. Dr Sukhvinder Singh Dari, Director, SLS, Nagpur invited retired High Court Judges, Advocates, law firm partners and legal academicians to judge the competition. The moot problem of the competition this time is solely based on constitutional law. Excitement is in the air at Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur as the teams have started arriving and the judges can be seen keeping a watchful view of the proceedings.
