This is how the model Lakadganj Police Station looks from inside.

Maharashtra’s first model police station at Lakadganj is ready and now all ready for its inauguration. The speciality of this police station is, it has been constructed following all modern rules. This G+3 police station stands on a part of 4.5 acre land which will also house offices of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), quarters for constables and Inspectors. The quarters are not yet constructed, but police station has started functioning. Previous Devendra Fadnavis Government had planned to provide a different look to the existing police stations. On this idea, Lakadganj Police Station was chosen for its transformation.

On the lines of Lakadganj police station, other police stations will be developed. Maharashtra Minister of Home Anil Deshmukh has appreciated the idea and made it clear that Mahavikas Aaghadi Government, led by Uddhav Thackeray, would set up such police stations in entire State. “I personally want that the life of police personnel should be improved. Police stations housed in old and dilapidated buildings is the concept of passe. This is modern era and we want every policemen should work in healthy atmosphere. I don’t see anything bad in carry forwarding the good concepts even of the previous Government for the welfare of police force,” Deshmukh made it clear while talking to ‘The Hitavada’.

Commissioner of Police Dr Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, said, “This police station has all the facilities. Many things are under one roof. It will not only provide convenience to common man but also to policemen. It will have several facilities because of which policemen can operate several things while being at the police station. Naturally it will benefit people too. It will take some time to construct the quarters. We are waiting for the formal inauguration of the police station.” Elaborating the details of this model police station, Senior Police Inspector of Lakadganj Police Station Narendra Hiware said, “This will be the police station which will have many first initiatives. The four lock-ups also are specious and built as per international norms.

Apart from the offices of DCP and ACP, police residential quarters, this police station will have commercial complex, a specious hall that would accommodate over 500 persons. It will also have a club house and gymnasium.” Department of Home, Government of Maharashtra, has also taken care of sports and other facilities. This premises will have 3,000 sq ft open land where sports facilities would be developed. There will be separate Sewage Treatment Plant. A facility that would be able to generate 65 KW electricity also being developed. There will be an independent modern fire department to take care of fire emergencies. “There will be G+11 building that will house 300 two BHK flats each admeasuring 44 sq meters for constables.

There will another building of G+12 having 48 two BHK flats each admeasuring 50 sq.meter. Apart from these facilities, the police station will have around 20 washrooms, separately for men and women. At present, we don’t have meetings hall of different capacity. That lacuna has been removed in this new model police station,” informed Narendra Hiware.
