Khau Galli that was abandoned midway was revived following concerns expressed by citizens about wastage of public money. Such idea of food zones is common in all big cities and Nagpur was lacking its own and Khau Galli is going to fill-up that gap.

To a question, Mayor admitted that ambience of Khau Galli needs improvement and said a tender is floated for restoration of pristine beauty of Gandhisagar Lake. During summer due to evaporation foul smell emanates and as such may affect footfall at Khau Galli that is going to have 32 stalls in first go.

The make over of lake is a big project and in future boating facility would also be made available to make the spot a tourist attraction. Khau Galli would be open for citizens from January 16 onwards and draw of lots for allotment of stalls was also held at NMC today itself, he informed.

Mayor also said the project should not remain just a food zone but Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is going to style it as a recreational centre where entire family can enjoy their evening.

From that angle he issued instructions to civic officials to reserve one corner for kids and put in place instruments where kids can enjoy their outing to the lake side.

According to suggestions of local corporators, NMC would table a resolution during next meeting of House on January 20 for closing the road in front of Raman Science Centre during evening hours. The proposal of spot adoption would be sent to city police.

Deputy Mayor Manisha Kothe, Sandeep Jadhav, Ruling Party Leader, Bandu Raut, ex-corporator who conceptualised Khau Galli, corporators Lata Kadgaye, Harshala Sable and Pramod Chikhle were also present during the press conference.
