Damage of sluice gate and subsequent development of cracks are raising questions over the quality of its construction
PANIC prevailed among the residents of Tamadand Gram Panchayat under Khadgawan block of the district, when cracks developed in Anjani Reservoir after its sluice gate damaged suddenly on Tuesday. The maintenance works are reported to be in progress. As per the information, Anjani Reservoir was constructed some 3 to 4 years ago. Damage of sluice gate and subsequent development of cracks are raising questions over the quality of its construction. It is believed that a large number of villagers may have to face huge loss, if the Anjani Reservoir collapses. It will not only destroy a large portion of standing crops, but can also destroy houses.
According to the information, soon after receiving the information about cracks on the reservoir, the concerned department started working for repairing the cracks. Local people said that a few days ago, the department officials were informed about the cracks developed in Khada Reservoir dam. They opined that at that time, the department officials should have checked all the reservoirs and this might have solved the problem earlier. The villagers also informed that the water from the reservoir was not released on time. This negligence has led to the cracks in the reservoir.
On receiving the information about cracks, a large number of villagers gathered near the Reservoir, however, they were sent back home after local police reached the spot. On receiving information about the cracks in the reservoir, the Collector S N Rathore immediately sent a team of officials led by the SDM on the spot to take stock of the situation. When contacted, Khadgawan in-charge TI Shiv Kumar Yadav confirmed that the SDM and other authorities had visited the spot. Efforts were being made to carry out necessary repairs. If sources are to be believed, the then Water Resource Department Secretary had visited the site in the year 2018 and laid emphasis on five-point enquiry. But, no initiative was taken. This situation would not have emerged if the enquiry was held and necessary initiatives taken.
