special provisions for Gondwana University at Gadchiroli for converting it into tribal focussed one were made when Maharashtra Public Universities Act 2016 came into existence. It was done during previous Devendra Fadnavis Government in the tenure of the then Minister of Education Vinod Tawde. But they were not applied. After the end of tenure of Dr N V Kalyankar as Vice-Chancellor, Dr Srinivasa Varakhedi, Vice-Chancellor of Kavikulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University (KKSU) took additional charge and in the first Management Council meet, he decided to apply all provisions made for Gondwana University. Now the university is drafting its plan to act as Tribal Focussed one.
 
In addition to the other provisions the Gondwana University, Gadchiroli is provided with special provision by adding change point as mandate in the vision and mission, aimed at converging into a ‘Tribal Focussed University’ with special emphasis on certain points. These points include the university shall be developed and established as a State-level higher education institution that shall have a focus on ‘Tribal education, studies, research and empowerment’, that includes the studies in tribal language, cultures, knowledge, customs and traditions, tourism and employment opportunities etc.
 
University shall undertake forest studies, design and implement forest based curricula, green skill development and public awareness programs and support innovations leading to entrepreneurship development. Now university shall act as Nodal Agency by collaborating with local, regional and national level institutions, government departments and organizations for fulfilling the provided mandate. Its main focus shall be on the preservation and enrichment of cultural heritage and tradition of the tribal people keeping the values of tribal tradition intact.
 
No educational institution affiliated to or recognized by the university shall be associated in any way with, or seek admission to any privileges of, any other university established by law, except, without the permission of the Gondwana University, Gadchiroli. The university may, in the interest of tribals at large, shall seek funding from Union government as well as State government or any other reputed funding agencies, for instituting fellowships, scholarships etc.
