Unidentified thieves broke open an automated teller machine (ATM) of Bank of India at Mansar along National Highway, in the wee hours of Saturday and fled with Rs 19,90,500/- cash. The thieves cut open the ATM with the help of a gas cutter and stole the cash. As per the bank records, the ATM number is IDMNA8002. The incident took place between 3 am and 4.30 am.
The thieves sprayed black liquid on the camera of the ATM as well as inside the chamber, and then cut open the machine to steal the cash, said Ramtek Police. In the morning, the neighboring shopkeeper saw the broken machine and informed the Branch Manager of the bank. Jitendra Asharam Basakhetre, Branch Manager of the bank, who is a resident of New Subhedar Layout, Nagpur, informed Ramtek Police Station about the incident over telephone.
Ramtek Police Station registered a case under Section 457 and 380 of the IPC and started investigation. Forensics team, dog squad were also called in but could not find any clue. Mansar Police Post is located at a distance of barely 150 metres from the ATM kiosk. Dilip Thakur, Police Inspector; Shrikant Hattimare, Dattaprasad Shendge, Meena Barge, Police Sub-Inspectors are conducting further investigations under the guidance of Rakesh Ola, Superintendent of Police; and Nayan Alurkar.
