The last rites will be performed with State honours at 12. 30 pm on Sunday in Poharadevi
Dr Ramrao Maharaj, religious leader of Banjara community at Poharadevi in the district, passed away in Mumbai on Friday. He had been admitted to Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai, for treatment as he was having difficulty in breathing. After thorough discussion and request of Maharashtra Minister for Forests Sanjay Rathod, Karanja Lad MLA Rajendra Patni , MLC Adv Nilay Naik, Washim District Collector, Superintendent of Police, other leaders and Government officials, the family members of Dr Ramrao Maharaj agreed to perform the last rites at 12. 30 pm on Sunday in Poharadevi. In this regard, a family member Babusingh Maharaj made official declaration about the funeral that will be held with State honours.
Top leaders from different parties in the state expressed condolences over the sad demise of Dr Ramrao Maharaj. CM Uddhav Thackeray: Paying tributes on the demise of Ramrao Maharaj, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that his death has caused great loss not only to Banjara community but to the entire society. Following the path shown by him would be a great tribute, he said. Ramrao Maharaj while carrying the legacy of Sant Sevalal Maharaj always attacked the undesirable practices in the society and did good work of public awareness. Dy CM Ajit Pawar: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also paid tributes to Ramrao Maharaj. In his condolence, he said that Ramrao Maharaj was a social reformer and tried his best to get rid of unwanted traditions, practices and superstitions.
He strove to bring about social reformation and worked for the welfare of the humanity. His contribution in the field social reform and spirituality cannot be forgotten. BALASAHEB THORAT: “Sant Ramrao Bapu Maharaj devoted his entire life to upliftment of Banjara community. Hitting at conservatism, lack of education and other evils he spread awareness bringing progress in the society. With his death, society has lost a great saint,” said Babasaheb Thorat, MPCC Chief and Revenue Minister. DEVENDRA FADNAVIS: “The demise of Sant Ramraoji Maharaj is extremely shocking. I join the Banjara community in their grief today and pay my heartfelt tribute.
I had the good fortune to seek Sant Rajraoji Maharaj’s blessings many times. During my tenure as Chief Minister, many decisions were taken for Pohradevi Sansthan’s development. I salute to his many memories. Looking at his huge contribution and the sentiments of Banjara community, I request State Government to accord him a state funeral with full honour,” said former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. SANJAY RATHOD: “The sad demise of Dr Ramrao Bapu Maharaj, the Mathadhipati of Pohradevi Sansthan and a source of energy for entire Banajara community, is an irreparable loss to the social and cultural progress of the Banjara Community. I pay my heartfelt tribute to this great ‘tapasvi’,” said Guardian Minister Sanjay Rathod.
