Establishment Board of State police had collected information of 1,086 APIs in March this year. Of them, 543 officers were expected to get promoted as Police Inspectors. However, the officers are awaiting their promotion orders for last nine months. A police officer said that the delay in promotion is causing lot of anxiety among the officers. In recent general transfers, many APIs were transferred to another police units. These officers will be again transferred to other units with new promotion orders as Police Inspectors.
“It means, an officer will be transferred two times in a year. Such complicated transfer process will not only tax the cops financially but mentally too,” he lamented. If the promotions were done before the general transfers, it would have been beneficial for the force and the officers, he added. Another officer, on request of anonymity, said that the government had put work modification during the COVID-19 pandemic and police personnel above 50 years of age were asked to do only official work at police stations. As the force has more than 70 per cent police inspector above 50 years of age, they were not able to go in field. As a result, the force is facing crunch of police inspectors in the field. The APIs who are awaiting promotion are between the age group of 35 and 40 years and their promotion as police inspectors would give young leaders to the force.
