RAIPUR,

Reacting sharply to the incident of farmer death, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Vice- President Dr Raman Singh has remarked that another farmer lost his life due to the wrong policies of the Government and anarchy prevailing. Talking to media persons, Dr Singh said every day news of farmers’ deaths come to fore due to suicide or shock, but now this insensitive State Government will brand the victim farmer either mentally instable or an addict and runaway from the responsibility. Asking who’s responsible for the death of this farmer, the former Chief Minister said now the farmers will act against this injustice.

The BJP National Vice- President said this is not the only incident of farmers’ death. A few days earlier one farmer had committed suicide in Rajnandgaon district while the other in Kondagaon district. Today the farmers in State are under huge duress, the way their paddy acreage is being written off. A farmer having 10-12 acres of paddy acreage, when he goes to sell his paddy at procurement centre, come to know that he’s eligible to sell paddy from 0.2 acre while the remaining has been written off.

He said when a farmer arrives at the centre with 200 quintal paddy and comes to know that he’s eligible for selling merely 10 or 20 quintal paddy. A farmer cultivates his fields and grows paddy with great efforts and hard work. He takes loans for seeds, fertilizers, insecticides, etc and other agriculture works and when such incidents happen they are shocked and such drastic steps are taken. Similar conditions are prevailing across the state. At first the State Government troubled them in the name of registration then for getting their paddy acreage registered which was followed by girdawari process in which several farmers’ paddy acreage were written off. Finally again the farmer had to toil for securing a token so that he can sell paddy at the procurement center. In Bastar, the situation is much worse. The state government at first promised to procure paddy from forest dwellers having legitimate forest rights certificates and now they are being refused. It is sad that in the very first week of paddy procurement such alarming circumstances have been created. No farmer wants to commit suicide. He comes to the procurement center happily to sell his paddy. Under such situations if the state government gives shock treatment to farmers which lead to such kind of incidents, it is a failure of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and his Congress government, stated the former chief minister.
