Raipur Traffic Police’s claim of undertaking an extensive campaign against reckless and drunken driving turned out to be flat late Sunday night when a recklessly driven Mercedes by a rich brat reportedly rammed into a four-wheeler in State Capital. However, no offence in this connection was registered as both the parties decided to resolve the issue mutually, Police also hardly bothered to take action on either of them for allegedly driving under inebriated condition. According to police sources, a Mercedes (CG 04 SV 2100) allegedly driven by Harshit Singhania, son of a prominent builder in the city, under inebriated condition hit a four-wheeler (CG 24 M 3994) coming from opposite direction in the city’s Amanaka over-bridge under Saraswati Nagar police station at around 11:30 pm.
The impact of the collision was so strong that wheelers from both the vehicles got separated. Shedding more details about the mishap, police sources informed that the Mercedes allegedly being driven by Harshit under inebriated condition was heading towards the city a Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV) coming from the opposite direction leaving around three persons injured. However, Saraswati Nagar police said that no one was injured in the mishap.
It is to be mentioned here that as many as 397 precious lives were lost in around 1,405 road accidents took place between January and October this year while 1,046 persons were reported to be injured. Similarly, 458 people have lost their lives in around 2,146 road accidents took place in 2019 while 1581 were reportedly injured. At least 427 people died in around 2,075 road accidents took place in Raipur in 2018 and 1,374 were injured
