Right step

Sir,
The move by Delhi police to transfer the Delhi violence case to the crime branch and set up two Special Investigation Teams (SIT) to probe the riots is a welcome step.

Thirty-nine people have died and scores others injured in the riots described as one of the worst in the national capital. Fingers have been pointed at AAP councillor Tahir Hussain for the murder of Intelligence Bureau staffer Ankit Sharma and the party has done well to distance itself from the accused.

Inept handling

Sir,
The aam admi’s anguish over inability of the Delhi police in handling the unfortunate events in North-East Delhi, is understandable. No amount of clarification from the police forces would be enough to understand why they failed to stop the mob from spreading violence far and wide and perpetrate mayhem. Unlike police forces of other States, Delhi police has to take orders from the Ministry of Home Affairs. But for taking action against anyone disturbing peace and security of the country, they don’t have to wait for Centre’s direction. Their inaction was clearly visible. Sumati Gayki- Thakare, Nagpur
