A woman was seriously injured in the accident, said police
IN a heart-wrenching incident, a 50-year-old man and his six-year-old grandson were killed on the spot after a speeding 10-wheeler truck hit their motorcycle in Yashodhara Nagar area on Monday morning. The man was heading home on the bike along with his married daughter and grandchildren, who had just alighted from a Uttar Pradesh bus, police said.
The deceased were identified as Jivanlal Motilal Shahu, a resident of Gulshan Nagar and Shreshth Panna Prajapati (6), a resident of Uttar Pradesh. A police official said that Jivanlal’s daughter was staying in Uttar Pradesh with the family. She had boarded a bus at Uttar Pradesh on Sunday and reached city at 8.30 am on Monday. Jivnalal received them at Sharda Company and they were going towards Gulshan Nagar on the motorcycle. The incident occurred when the bike was moving towards Eta Bhatti Chowk from Sharda Company. A speeding 10-wheeler truck (MH-49/A-3692) coming from behind hit the motorcycle.
A impact was so powerful that Shreshth was thrown off the bike while Jivanlal came under wheels of the truck. Jivanlal’s daughter also sustained severe injuries in the mishap. The woman was inconsolable after seeing bodies of her son and father. She was admitted to a hospital as she had fallen unconscious, the police said. A large number of onlookers gathered at the spot. Yashodhara Nagar police sent the bodies to a hospital for post-mortem. The truck driver fled the spot after the accident. An offence under Sections 279, 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code read with Sections 134 and 177 of Motor Vehicle Act was registered by Yashodhara Nagar police.
