Inaugurated with much fanfare, the prolonged project goes dead, again

Khau Galli, an ideal concept where Nagpurians could satisfy their craving for delicious cuisine of the region, failed to see the daylight the very next day it was inaugurated. Already delayed, the project, aimed at attracting the cuisine lovers to heart of the city, was inaugurated at the hands of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on January 9. The high hopes of the planners nosedive the very next day as Khau Galli having 32 stalls, remains non-functional till date.

It was not the first time that Khau Galli was inaugurated and went dead. The new Mayor Sandip Joshi is taking all possible steps to introduce projects matching with the city’s overall development. But the hurry in announcing the projects as most of them are not taking off, is what he needs to cater to. Khau Galli, an ambitious project of city Mayor, has 32 stalls on the bank of Gandhisagar. When Nagpur Municipal Corporation invited applications from the interested parties, it evoked tremendous response. The concerned parties deposited Rs 10,000 each with the application. Also, 32 got selected and were allotted stalls. Joshi, on December 31 last, had convened a press conference announcing the date of inauguration of Khau Galli on January 9 at the hands of Gadkari.

Then nobody was aware of the fact that Khau Galli would be inaugurated and ‘shut’ the very next day. When asked, a stall-owner, on the condition of anonymity, told ‘The Hitavada’, “We have not been informed that Khau Galli would be closed after its inauguration. We were told by the authorities that we would get our stall with all facilities and every care would be taken. After the inauguration, we were asked not to run the stall till further notice. We were shocked. Even the food-lovers in good number visited Khau Galli only to return home in despair.” To add to the mockery of Khau Galli, the next day Chor Bazaar robbed it of its place. State General Secretary of Janhit Cell of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Mahesh Joshi; State Secretary Sushrut Kher, District President Iqbal Rizvi, MNS City President Vishal Badge also visited Khau Galli and were shocked on seeing the ground realities. They met then Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar and apprised him of the situation. MNS said, “The civic body showed haste in its decision in bringing out the Khau Galli. They wanted to take credit so they came out without any proper preparation.

Now, the authorities are arguing the drainage is not proper, some primary arrangement that would facilitate the stall owners has not been made. Municipal Corporation says it would take some more days to make things usual for the food stall there. They would provide wash basins, drinking water and separate electricity meters to all the stalls.” Earlier, NMC had claimed that Khau Galli would be restarted on January 26 but that too proved false. Nagpurians have wait more to see Khau Galli opening its doors for them. Till then, it remains a victim of the tussle between BJP-led NMC and Maha Vikas Aaghadi Government in State!
