A youth who had come from Russia and travelling abroad Tamil Nadu Express was detained at Nagpur Railway Station and sent to MLA Hostel for quarantine on Sunday. But before that high drama occurred in B-2 coach of Chennai bound train as a passenger noticed home quarantine stamp on the youth’s hand and immediately panic set-in. The traveller was then kept in isolation as other passenger immediately maintained a safe distance and informed the Train Conductor.

The incident occurred after the train crossed Itarsi Junction and TC then passed on information to Divisional Control Room here who in turn alerted local railway officials. It was decided the stamped traveller would be deboarded at Nagpur since it has big isolation facility in readiness. Local health authorities were also kept in loop and a team with ambulance was kept in readiness at Nagpur Railway Station. The train reached here around 2.30 pm and the youth was brought out by health team taking all necessary precautions. After the youth was whisked away from the station and the B-2 coach of Tamil Nadu Express was disinfected by the railway staff at Nagpur as a matter of precaution.

As per information, the youth whose name is withheld by authorities had flown in from Russia and as per protocol a stamp for home quarantine was stamped on his hand and thereafter he was allowed to leave for home town. It is also learnt that his initial test result was negative but still as per procedure he was advised home quarantine for which he was heading home. Earlier on receipt of information, railway too deployed its own medical staff for any assistance for travellers at the station. Now local health authorities would take another sample of the traveller’s swab and test it to rule out case being positive. In case the traveller’s report turns out to be positive then all the co-travellers in train would need to be traced and put under quarantine to ensure the virus is not transmitted further in community.
