City buses, Ola, Uber, taxis, private buses to remain off roads

To strengthen the measures to contain COVID-19, Municipal Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has issued a notification banning movement of private commercial vehicles in city and that of city buses from Monday onwards. Invoking powers vested under section 3 of Maharashtra COVID 19 Control Measures 2020, Mundhe said Aapli Buses would stay off the road till further notice. Similarly, services of Ola, Uber and private taxis would remain suspended till stated otherwise as drastic measures are now undertaken by Maharashtra Government to contain spread of novel coronavirus.
 
With further spike in number of positive cases and one more death of COVID 19 patient, Government further extended lockdown to entire State to prevent transmission of virus in the community. Barring vehicles engaged in essential services, all other private vehicles too are not allowed to ply in the city. Even private travel buses movement is now fully banned with effect from Monday. Also inter district movement of buses of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) was suspended by Maharashtra Government part of lockdown in entire State.
 
Since Municipal Commissioner has already promulgated Epidemic Control Act, movement of citizens, excluding those in essential categories, are to strictly remain confined to respective homes. Municipal Commissioner has appealed citizens to as far as possible maintain isolation and work from home. Already till March 31 all private establishments, excluding grocery, pharmacy, petrol pumps, clinics, LPG refill delivery. hospitals are excluded from preview of ban. Further NMC is trying to source masks and sanitizers from Mumbai to tide over shortage so that citizens do not face the problem.
