RAIPUR,
Raipur Police intercepted a truck-load of foreign liquor worth around Rs 20 lakh from Deopuri on Wednesday evening. The interception of liquor load came barely three days after Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) disclosure in the wake of massive tax swoop in Chhattisgarh, which established unscrupulous money was being amassed from liquor trade.
Though the interception of liquor-laden truck was termed to be part of routine policing exercise to check liquor peddling, many were surprised with the swift action of Raipur Police. “Police have intercepted a truck (UP 81 AS 6925) peddling huge quantity of English liquor from Haryana to the state in the garb of tiles transportation and arrested the truck driver.
The truck containing around 190 boxes of liquor was intercepted at Deopuri under Tikrapara police station late on Wednesday evening,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Prafull Kumar Thakur. Exact quantity of seized figure would be clear after completion of entire proceedings, said the ASP City, elaborating that the estimated market value of the seized liquor would be around Rs 20 lakh. Prima-facie investigation revealed that the seized liquor was brought here from Haryana, added ASP Thakur.
