Raipur,
Professor Baldev Bhai Sharma took charge as Vice-Chancellor of Kushabhau Thakrey University of Journalism and Mass Communication (KTUJMC) amidst strong opposition from National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Thursday. Talking to the media, post his joining, the Vice-Chancellor said that he does not see it as an opposition.
“The registrar of the university completed the formalities of my joining. All are my students. I also respect the CM,” said the V-C. Earlier, in view of strong opposition by NSUI, Professor Sharma had to return from the university without joining the office. When Professor Sharma reached the university on Thursday morning to join as Vice- Chancellor, he was opposed by NSUI members at the main gate of the campus. Later, when he entered the office for joining, the NSUI members too entered the office and staged a demonstration, questioning the objective behind the appointment of a Vice-Chancellor, reportedly with a RSS background, in a Congress ruled state.
This had created a face off like situation between the Raj Bhawan and the State Government after Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel reportedly made the statement that Raj Bhawan had done its job and its turn of state government to see what can be done. According to the Chief Minister, the name proposed by the state government was not considered for the post of V-C. Professor Sharma’s name was not even in the list proposed by the State government, according to the CM. Meanwhile, Governor Anusuiya Uikey is on Delhi tour and it is expected she will consult with the UGC over rules and regulations. The post of Vice-Chancellor in the university had been lying vacant for 11 months.
