POTHOLES and damaged roads have been distressing commuters in Raipur, thus increasing vehicular traffic and road accidents. This predicament prevails not only in Raipur but all across India, with a number of accidents and deaths reported due to potholes and other damages on a regular basis.

 

 

 

While talking to the mediapersons, Retired Engineer-in-Chief of Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) Pankaj Bakaya said that considering the current condition of Raipur roads, a successful concept of ‘White Topping’ is an optimal solution to ensure safer and durable roads with minimum repairs in its entire lifespan of 20 years. It is not only durable and sustainable in nature, but will also reduce road accidents.

 

Pankaj Bakaya said, “White Topping will not only solve the perennial potholes and other problems but also reduce the high rate of deaths and accidents in the country. In cities likes Raipur, where the vehicular population continues to increase on a gradual basis, the application of White Topping will cause minimum to nil interference in daily commuters’ experience. The technology is also well suited for village roads, especially in populated portions and areas which are prone to water logging”.

 

He further said that White Topping is an environment-friendly and energy-efficient solution. Conventional bituminous roads need more investments towards maintenance than White Topping roads, thereby making White Topping the better solution in the long run. There are many advantages of White Topping as it certainly leads to a cleaner, energy efficient and visibly better infrastructure, he added.
