Marginal farmers in Vid get first instalment of PM-KISAN scheme

As announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the first instalment of Pradhan Mantri-Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme has been transferred directly to the accounts of marginal farmers in the country, including those from Vidarbha region. Press Information Bureau (PIB), Mumbai, shared this information through a press release on Wednesday.
 
PIB Maharashtra also shared on its Twitter handle a video featuring a marginal farmer from Akot in Akola district of Maharashtra saying that he had received the first instalment of Rs 2,000/- in his account. The amount has come in handy during lockdown period, he stated in the video. With new guidelines on lockdown setting agriculture and allied activities almost completely free, rural areas are expected to witness increase in farm related activities, stated the PIB release. Union Finance Minister had announced PM-KISAN scheme to help small and marginal farmers to tide over lockdown.
 
PM-KISAN scheme aims at supplementing financial needs of small and marginal farmers in procuring various inputs to ensure proper crop health and appropriate yields commensurate with the anticipated farm income at the end of the each crop cycle. An amount of Rs 6,000/- will be credited directly in the beneficiary’s account in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000/- each. Till date, PIB release stated, the Central Government has disbursed an amount of Rs 14,946 crore benefitting 7.47 crore small and marginal farmers.
