While implementing lockdown norms to contain spread of novel coronavirus, Nagpur Range Police undertook all precautions to save the families of police personnel from the vicious tentacles of the ‘super-spreader’ virus. In all four districts of Nagpur range - Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara and Chandrapur, concerned Superintendents of Police (SPs) have made special arrangements at police lines where the police families are getting essential commodities at their home place thereby eliminating need to undertake travel outside the colonies. Special Inspector General of Police (IGP) (Nagpur Range) Mallikarjuna Prasanna told ‘The Hitavada’ that as the cops are busy on battleground to save precious lives, it is necessary to keep them tension free on home front.

“Worries about safety of families can affect performance of police personnel in the field and that’s why we are implementing the new system for past last two weeks,” the IGP said. The four Superintendents of Police (SPs) were directed to identify vegetable vendors for every police line and earmark a specific space at the lines to ensure he can function smoothly and cater to the needs of the families, IGP Prasanna further said. All measures taken in Bhandara Superintendent of Police Bhandara Arvind Salve informed that all precautionary measures were taken to safeguard police families from outreach novel coronavirus. A total of 197 police families are living at the police line constructed at Bhandara police headquarters.“A vegetable vendor were allotted the task for supplying daily needs to these families,” he said.
Only selected vendors allowed in Wardha SP Wardha Dr Baswaraj Teli said that sale of vegetables and milk is done at Wardha Police Lines only by selected vendors. Wardha police have two police lines - a total of 238 police families are living at Pipri Meghe while 96 families are housed at Police Headquarters. “Four vegetable vendors were allotted right for Pipri (Meghe) and two for police headquarters,” he said.
Nagpur Rural cops’ families get essentials in colony Superintendent of Police Nagpur Rural Rakesh Ola informed that a total of 134 police families are housed at police line of Nagpur Rural Police in city.
“For meeting their daily requirements we tied-up with three vegetable vendors who were provided masks and hand gloves,” SP Ola said. “Some more precautions were also taken by the police staff deployed at the entry gate. No person is allowed to enter the premises without full body checks,” he said.
550 families of cops taken care of in Chandrapur Chandrapur Superintendent of Police Dr Maheshwar Reddy said that Chandrapur police have 550 police families living at police colony at Tukum Road in Chandrapur. A vegetable vendor was given space at the police line for selling vegetables. Similarly, two grocery shop owners have been engaged for home delivery of goods,” he said.
