Region-wise onset dates of Vidarbha will be declared on 2nd stage of LRF in first week of June
The onset date of South-West monsoon over Nagpur have now changed and as per the latest 1st stage Long Range Forecast (LRF) issued by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) the new date for onset of monsoon over Nagpur is June 15. “Earlier, the date was June 10 but the changing monsoon pattern in last few years over the city have revised the date,” said M L Sahu, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur to The Hitavada on Saturday.
IMD has now revised the normal onset dates based on recent data for the period during 1961-2019 and normal dates of withdrawal are revised based on data during 1971-2019. “New monsoon advance dates over Central India including remaining parts of Maharashtra are delayed by 3-7 days compared to existing normal dates,” informed Sahu. The region wise onset dates of monsoon will be released in the next LRF which will issue in first week of June, which will provide the new onset dates for whole Vidarbha, he added. IMD has not changed the withdrawal date that is October 6 of South-West Monsoon over Nagpur.
“The monsoon over Vidarbha will remain normal due to La Niña pattern which is progressing this year,” said Sahu. The scorching summer is yet to get its grip over Vidarbha due to formation of Western Disturbance (WD). Nagpur recorded the highest maximum temperature of 43.4 degree Celsius which was observed on Friday. Rain and thunderstorm affected the summer so far. “Normally, the WD gets over during winter but this year it extended till April which is affected the summer season in Vidarbha. If the WD extends till late summer then it will affect the monsoon at some limit,” said Sahu. “We are expecting that the WD will reduce till last week of April and May will hit up the season,” he added.
