PROPERTY worth crores of rupees was devastated in a major fire that broke at the unit of Vyankatesh Udyog (India) Private Limited at MIDC area on Hingna Road in the small hours of Wednesday. The company, which is owned by Krishnakumar Mannilal Gupta deals in manufacture and supply of printing and lamination inks, flexographic inks, stationery Inks, screen inks, coil-n-can coating inks and speciality inks and coatings. Sainath Packaging, another unit owned by Ashok Bhagwandas Balani, adjacent to Vyankatesh Udyog factory, also caught fire causing huge losses.

Different types ink, chemicals, machinery raw material and other goods were gutted at Vyankatesh Udyog situated at Plot No. M-12/1, M-12/2, M-12/3 MIDC, Hingna Road in the fire. No casualty was reported as the factory was closed due to nation-wide lockdown. Similarly, goods at Sainath Packaging unit too were gutted in the inferno. Around 2 am, the security guard deployed in the unit noticed thick smoke emanating from the factory of Vyankatesh Udyog.
Within minutes, fire engulfed the entire factory. The security guard alerted the company manager and directors who informed the Fire Brigade immediately. Firefighters from MIDC Fire Station rushed to the spot. Four fire tenders were despatched from MIDC Fire Station. As fire started spreading in the adjoining Sainath Packaging unit, a team of firefighters with seven fire tenders from Fire & Emergency Services of Nagpur Municipal Corporation were summoned to douse the flames.
Staff from Hingna and MIDC Police Station also reached the spot. After combating with the devastating inferno for hours, firefighters doused the flames and prevented the fire from spreading in the other adjoining industrial units. Though firefighting equipment with about 1000 foam was already installed at Vyankatesh Udyog, it could not be used as the factory was completely closed in view of country-wide lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic. Sources told ‘The Hitavada’ that there was no power supply to the unit as the main switch in the factory was already turned off. As many as 14 CCTV cameras installed at the factory were damaged in the fire. However, the hard disc of the CCTV camera unit was intact. Police officers and Firebrigade personnel started investigation to ascertained the cause behind the fire.
