First Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and Founder President of Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J) Ajit Jogi suffered a massive heart attack on Saturday morning at his residence. He was rushed to Shree Narayana Hospital, Devendra Nagar, where he was admitted in Intensive Care Unit and his condition is stated to be critical. In a medical bulletin issued by Dr Sunil Khemka, Medical Director, Shree Narayana Hospital, Raipur, in the afternoon, it was stated that former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi (74) was admitted in the hospital at 12.30 pm under critical condition.

Dr Khemka said that as per information received from the members of Jogi family, Ajit Jogi was strolling around in the garden in his wheel-chair, as per his daily routine. While strolling around, he was also eating Ganga Imli (Pithecellobium dulce - a species of flowering plant in the pea family). All of a sudden Jogi fell unconscious. On getting call from his family members, ambulance was rushed to his residence along with Dr Pankaj Omar, Chief Intensivist of Shree Narayana Hospital. After carrying out rapid inspection of the condition of Ajit Jogi, Dr Pankaj Omar started the procedure of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) which is an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions often with artificial ventilation in an effort to manually preserve intact brain function until further measures are taken to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person who is in cardiac arrest, at his residence only as he had suffered cardiac arrest already.

Thereafter, under critical condition Ajit Jogi has been shifted to the hospital. As of now his ECG and pulse have returned which means he is responding to the treatment and his heart is gradually returning to normalisation, but his respiration is still under critical and has been put on ventilator, said Dr Khemka. Later, in the evening, in another medical bulletin issued again by Dr Sunil Khemka, he stated that the treatment of Ajit Jogi is being carried by the medical team of Narayana Hospital under Dr Pankaj Omar. In the morning while eating Ganga Imli, its seed was stuck in his trachea, due to which, he suffered respiratory arrest followed by a severe cardiac arrest.

During the course of treatment, the doctors removed the seed from his trachea. A CT Scan of his brain was also performed wherein, Cerebral edema was detected. Cerebral edema is when fluid builds up around the brain, causing an increase in pressure known as intracranial pressure. Dr Sunil Khemka added that presently his heart condition has improved and functioning normally. Presently, Ajit Jogi has been put on ventilator and his situation continuous to be critical. He will remain under observation for next 48-72 hours is very crucial for his health. After the news spread, Governor Anusuiya Uikey, CM Bhupesh Baghel, BJP National Vice-President Dr Raman Singh, former AICC President Rahul Gandhi, Speaker Dr Charan Das Mahant, BJP Legislative Party Leader Dharamlal Kaushik, AICC General Secretary Motilal Vora and large numbers of senior political leaders enquired about his health condition from his wife and MLA Dr Renu Jogi, his son Amit Jogi and hospital sources. The Chief Minister on behalf of State Government has assured Amit Jogi that State will extend all possible medical care to the former CM.
