Female tiger cub found dead in Pench Reserve buffer zone

Chief Conservator of Forests and Director of Pench Tiger Reserve, Seoni, Vikram Singh Parihar informed that in beat under forest room RF 379 in Ghatkohka forest area, the buffer zone of Pench Tiger Reserve, a female tiger cub was found dead on Thursday at 8:30 am, during security patrolling. He further informed that the age of tigress was around 5 - 6 months. Getting this information, Pench Area Deputy Director and other officers reached the spot and started investigation.
 
According to SOP specified by National Tiger Authority and in presence of NTCA Representative, L K Wasnik, the autopsy was performed by Wildlife Doctor, Dr Akhilesh Mishra. During the autopsy, it was clear that the female tiger cub died due to a fight with a adult male tiger and the breathing pipe of the female tiger cub was found to be broken.
 
In this area, the presence of a female tiger with its cubs and a male tiger has been recorded in last few days. After autopsy, the samples were preserved for further investigation in the laboratory. All of the organs, claws, nails and teeth were found to be completely intact. Cremation of dead tiger female cub was performed with components excluding the preserved samples.
