Former Minister demands direct cash transfer in account of migrants, unemployed

Around 40,000 residents of Prabhag 8, most of them poor, are reeling under the sealing order of NMC and immediate relaxation must be provided, says Dr Ahmed

Ex-Cabinet Minister Dr Anees Ahmed expressed his grief at the death of citizen of Mominpura area who could not make it to hospital on time due to containment restrictions and demanded, administration should scale down Mominpura containment area so that people could move out. Anees Ahmed met Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar to discuss the issue at length. Appreciating the work of Civic Administration under Tukaram Mundhe, Anees said, “Collector Ravindra Thakre, Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar and Nagpur Police Commissioner B K Upadhyay have all led from front in the Covid-19 war. At the same time, I feel only the nearby area of a coronavirus patient must be sealed and not every approach and exit road of a big colony.”

Dr Ahmed said, “Residents of Mominpura are demanding removal of barricades near Mayo Hospital, which should be carefully studied by the administration and plan must be drawn to address the concern of Mominpura residents as currently they have only single exit point from Golibar Square leaving the citizens worried in case of emergency.”

Dr Ahmed said, “Around 40,000 residents of the Prabhag 8, most of them poor, are reeling under the sealing order of NMC and immediate relaxation must be provided to them as most of them are running out of their savings and facing a livelihood crisis.” The Congress leader stated that residents were facing a lot of problems. “There are no ration shops, groceries, gas agencies, medical clinics, etc inside the containment zone. People have run out of essentials and are now facing starvation.” Dr Ahmed pointed out, “The people of Mominpura are cooperating with the administration but their only demand is to scale down the containment area as most of the people are daily wage earners and their inability to move out due to containment zone impeded their work.”

Dr Ahmed requested administration to increase the testing in the containment area. He also suggested mass testing. “Areas like Ansaar Nagar, Boriyapura and Guard line have not seen any Covid 19 cases since past 2 months and these areas must be given relaxation from containment zones,” demanded Dr Ahmed. He also appealed that instead of sending migrants back to their states, efforts must be taken to counsel them to stay back as migrant workers would be in forefront for restarting economy. Till the lockdown ends Government must take care of their food and accommodation, suggested Dr Anees Ahmed.

They said the epicenter of the outbreak of novel coronavirus cases is far away from Golibar Square yet civic officials have taken it as mid point and sealed area from Fawara Square, Nalsaheb Square, Timki Teen Khamba upto Mayo Hospital Square. These areas are far away from the epicenter of infected area and since last fortnight not a single case has surfaced in these area. The commercial establishments are closed due to sealing adversely affecting the businesspersons as well as the work force employed with them. Hence the citizens and shop owners has urged NMC to consider relaxation in the containment zone area.
