Narasimha Jayanti is celebrated in city on May 6. Many temples have made arrangements to celebrate the same on-line due to COVID-19 lockdown. Devotees are requested to attend the rituals on-line

Vaishakh Shuddha Chaturdashi, the 14th day of Shukla Paksha as per Hindu calendar is celebrated across the country as Sri Narasimha Chaturdashi. This is the day when the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu popular as Narasimha or Nrusimha descended on the earth. International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) also popular as Hare Ram Hare Krishna Movement has a lot of importance for Narasimha Jayanti day. This day is celebrated across the world by the ISKCON followers with joy and religious fervour. According to ISKCON, “Lord Narasimha is an all pervading god of spiritual knowledge, wealth, valour, strength and has great compassion towards his devotees. Lord Narasimha is the fourth avatar of Lord Krishna. He manifested on Narasimha Jayanthi day that falls in the month of Vaishaka, on shukla paksha chaturdasi, after Akshaya Tritiya favoured by Swathi nakshatra siddha yoga.

Since the incarnation appeared in the evening, rituals and other ceremonies are performed during sundown.” Nagpur Centre of ISKCON is also celebrating Narasimha Jayanti with joy and fervour. This year due to COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, the religious programmes will be held on-line and devotees can attend them on-line on Wednesday. Narasimha Yagna is the most important religious programme for ISKCON devotees. They believe this yagna would help to close debts and play major role in maintaining good health, wealth and prosperity. If one is facing various difficulties from evil spirits or from enemies, caught-up in legal issues then Narasimha Yagna is for him.

Narasimhadev will be blessing His devotee with peace and happiness. Nrusimha is a family deity (Kuldevata) of many Hindu families in Maharashtra. These families take Sankalp in the afternoon of Nrusimha Jayanti day. They perform Lord Narasimha Pujan during Sanyakal before sunset. It is believed that Lord Narasimha was appeared during sunset while Chaturdashi was prevailing. It is advised to keep night vigil and perform Visarjan Puja next day morning. The fast should be broken on next day after performing Visarjan Puja and giving Dana to Brahmin.

Narasimha Jayanti day is very auspicious for the devotees of Lord Dattatreya. Shripada Srivallabh is considered as the incarnation of Lord Dattatreya. The devotees of Shripada believe Shripada as an incarnation of Lord Narasimha. Shripada Shrivallabh Charitramrut, the wonderful religious scripture on the life and work of Shripada written by one Shankar Bhatt about 700 years ago has clearly mentioned in its 10th chapter as: “ Once, Shripada was at the house of Venkatappaiah Shresti assured him ‘Thatha! Why do you fear when I am here? I was the one who killed Hiranyaksha and Hiranya Kasyapa. It is not difficult for me to clear the Subbaiah’s debt.’

All the qualities of the 32 avathars of Nrusimha are in me. Mine is 33rd avathar.” The Charitramrut further mentioned that Shripad gave darshan to one Narasimha Raja verma in Nrusimha’s 32 forms. They include; Kundapada Narasimha, Kopa Narasimha, Brahmananda Narasimha, Samudra Narasimha, Viswaroopa Narasimha, Veera Narasimha, Kroora Narasimha, Bhibhatsa Narasimha, Roudra Narasimha, Dhoomra Narasimha, Vahni Narasimha, Vyghra Narasimha, Bidala Narasimha, Bhima Narasimha, Paataala Narasimha, Aakaasa Narasimha, Vakra Narasimha, Chakra Narasimha, Shankha Narasimha, Satthva Narasimha, Adbhuta Narasimha, Vega Narasimha, Vidarana Narasimha, Yogananda Narasimha, Laxmi Narasimha, Bhadra Narasimha, Raja Narasimha, Vallabha Narasimha etc.

The scripture also has confirmed that Narasimha Verma saw Sripada Srivallabha as the 30th Narasimha Murthi and Sri Nrusimha, Saraswathi avathar as 31st Narasimha Murthi and Sri Swami Samartha living in Prajnapuram (present Akkalkot) as 32nd Narasimha Murthi. n Narasimha Jayanti will be celebrated in ISKCON temple in Empress City near Gandhisagar lake on May 6.
