Shiv Sena leader arrested on extortion charges

An office-bearer of Shiv Sena was arrested by Ajni police for demanding an extortion of Rs 15 lakh from a moneylender and accepting the first installment of Rs five lakh after a compromise. The police have arrested Shiv Sena’s South Nagpur Vibhag Pramukh Sanjog Suresh Rathod, a resident of Manewada while his brother Vikram alias Vickey Suresh Rathod, a resident Manewada and Sanghatak of Yuva Sena, is on run after the police action. Police Inspector Santosh Khandekar of Ajni Police Station said that Mehboob Badshah Sheikh, a resident of Pardi, is a licensed moneylender.
 
 
His office is in Ganeshpeth area. The accused contacted him on mobile phone last week and demanded extortion of Rs 15 lakh to run his business smoothly. He also threatened him of adverse action and even cancellation of his license if he failed to pay the money. Since then, both brothers have been threatening Sheikh every day. After a compromise, the accused agreed to accept Rs eight lakh. Sheikh recorded all these conversations and contacted the police. After listening the call recordings, Ajni police laid a trap and asked Sheikh to call the accused at Medical Square on Saturday at 5 pm.
 
When Sanjog Rathod arrived at the Square and accepted Rs five lakh cash as first installment, PI Khandekar and his team arrested Rathod. An offence under Sections 384 and 34 of Indian Penal Code was registered by Ajni police. PI Khandekar said that searches are being conducted at various places for arrest of Vikram Rathod. Further investigations are under way. A police officer said that the accused was working for private banks as recovery agent and seized two-wheelers and cars of bank customers who failed to pay the loan.
