Bhavan’s chess prodigies Ojas Khamele and Mrudul Dehankar; shuttler Vinil Mokhade excel 
 
WITH a whopping 99.4 per cent marks chess player Ojas Khamele and shuttler Vinil Mokhade (99%) of Bhavan’s Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir, Trimurti Nagar led budding sportspersons of the city in CBSE exams, the results of which were out on Wednesday. Among city’s top chess players, young Women International Master (WIM) Mrudul Dehankar (93.80%) proved her mettle in academics too. Busy with her national and international tours, she hardly got time to attend school or study regularly. But she gave a full month’s sincere devotion to studies to make the cut.
 
Apart from Vinil, other top badminton players who scored good marks in academics also are as under —Devesh Jaina (96.4%), Sarthak Pakhmode (96.4%), Krishna Chinnamindpure (90%), Arav Fernandez (87.2%), Yugandhar Deo (86.4%), Jay Palkar (82%) and Lokesh Gidwani (80%). All the players were regular members of Ajay Dayal Badminton Academy.
 
A host of Centre Point School, Dabha students who had also excelled in various sports, secured over ninety per cent marks in the CBSE exams. The duo of Reeya Agrawal and Isha Karira performed well in more than one sport. Reeya did well in football and lawn tennis and got 92.4% marks while Isha Karira, who excelled in football and athletics secured 90.6 per cent marks. Other students who did the school proud in studies and sports include — Utsavi Gohil (chess, 98%), Animesh Sharma (DSO U-17 cricket, 97.4%), Mayank Mukherjee (lawn tennis, 96.6%), Aditya Sarda (football/athletics, 96.2%), Tanvi Chandak (football, 96%), Tanisha Sangatani (badminton, 95.8%), Reet Dara (football, 95.6%), Aditya Sharan (football, 95.2%), Sahil Kalambe (swimming, 94.8%), Aditya Thakur (football, 93.6%), Khushal Agrawal (basketball, 93.2%), Aditya Sharma (basketball, 92.6%), Reeya Agrawal (football/lawn tennis, 92.4%), Partik Walke (football, 91.8%), Yash Gyanchandani (football, 91.6%), Diya Rathi (athletics, 91%), Isha Karira (football/athletics, 90.6%) and Sanya Bose (football, 90.4%). Aadya Pande of Modern School, Koradi scored a staggering 99.2 per cent marks. Narayani Adane (98.2%), Spandan Seth (95%), Siya Thakre (94.5%), (all chess) and Vaidehi Gokhe (badminton, 93.8%) came out with flying colours. Modern School Koradi Road’s Ayushi Kulkarni (94.6%) and Arya Shende (92.2%) are top gymnasts while School of Scholar, Atrey Layout’s Yugandhar Sachin Deo (86.4%) plays throw ball and badminton. Sarthak Pakhmode (96.4%) of Centre Point School, Katol Road won a badminton gold at SGFI Nationals in 2018. He has been three times district champion in U-15 singles and twice in U-17 singles. He was also state runner-up in singles at Mulund. In 2020, he was U-17 doubles winner in Khasdar Krida Mahotsava. Upcoming boxer Alfiya Tarannum Pathan also cleared her exams with 74.8 per cent marks getting 81 and 80 in Information Technology and Sanskrit respectively.
