Court remands Sayyad to police custody till July 22

FOUR PAN cards were seized by Crime Branch from extortionist Sahil Sayyad, who was arrested on Sunday from his residence in Baghdadiya Nagar, Zingabai Takli. On Monday, the police produced Sayyad in the court.

The police told the court that Sahil was booked in fraud and extortion cases. The police needs to question him about purpose of various documents including four PAN cards seized from his residence. Senior Police Inspector Santosh Khandekar demanded police custody for six days. However, lawyers of the accused including Adv. Kamal Satuja and Adv Kailash Dodani opposed the arguments of the police. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court remanded Sahil to police custody till July 22. A police official said that Sahil was hiding at Indore in Madhya Pradesh after a criminal case was registered against him.

The investigators are also trying to find out who gave him shelter at Indore. A total of three cases were registered against Sayyad including fraud and extortion cases. He was arrested in a connection with a case registered at Bajajnagar police station.

A Crime Branch official informed that Sayyd had also extorted money from Naib Tehsildar. Seven years ago, Sahil lodged a complaint with Anti-Corruption Buraue (ACB). Acting on the complaint, the ACB had arrested the Naib Tehsildar while accepting bribe. Sayyad then demanded extortion of lakhs of rupees to the Naib Tehsildar to get him out of the case. The Naib Tehsildar has lodged a complaint with Crime Branch, claimed an official of Crime Branch.
