GONDIA, In a tragic incident, four persons including a father-son duo died of suffocation in a well. The incident took place around 9 am on Thursday at Kanhartola village of Amgaon tehsil. The deceased have been identified as Atmaram Urkuda Bhandarkar (62), his son Jhanaklal Atmaram Bhandarkar (36), neighbours Raju Bhaiyalal Bhandarkar (35) and Dhanraj Laxman Gaidhani (40), all residents of Kahnartola coming under the jurisdiction of Salekasa Police Station.
As per information given by API Rajkumar Dunage, Atmaram Bhandarkar had constructed a new well and on Thursday he had arranged a small programme for pooja of the well. Before that, on Wednesday, he had added a mixture of bleaching powder, alum, etc into the well.
On Thursday morning Atmaram’s son Jhanaklal entered the well to remove the football of the motor pump. But soon he started feeling dizzy. Seeing this, Atmaram also entered the well but both father and son could not come out and died of suffocation inside the well. Meanwhile, a village boy informed about the incident to Atmaram’s neighbours Raju Bhandarkar and Dhanraj Gaidhani.
They reached the spot and they too entered the well to save the duo. But they too fell unconscious and drowned in the well. One Radheshyam had alsoentered the well, but sensing trouble midway, he quickly came out. On receiving the news, police team headed by SDPO Jalinder Naalkul and API Rajkumar Dunage reached the spot and started efforts to fish out the bodies. The work was going on till the filing of report.
