Bhopal Railway Station after switching off 50 per cent lights.

Taking significant step towards energy conservation, the Bhopal Railway Division has adopted self-lighting system at platforms. The system would help railway to put a tab on unnecessary wastage of energy. The new signal system includes 100 per cent lighting at platform after arrival of the trains while after departure of train, 50 per cent lights will be routinely switched off automatically. This is an automatic system which will be working 24X7 hours at platform number-1 of Bhopal Railway Station.
I A Siddique, PRO of Bhopal Railway, informed that in this system all lighting system has been attached with ‘home’ and ‘starter’ signal. When train would be coming on home mode (signal of train arrival), entire lights of the platform will be switched on and when train will get starter signal (while departure), 50 per cent lights will be switched off. PRO said 50 per cent lights will be switched on even in absence of train as commutation of passengers is higher at Bhopal Railway Station for 24X7 hours.
A successful trial of this pilot project was recently held at Harda station where all lights of platform get switched on while arrival of train and after departure, 70 per cent lights get switched off. It helps Railways to save 70 per cent of energy at Harda station. At present, it consumes about 200 unit of electricity from 6 am to 6 pm at platform no 1 of Bhopal Railway Station every day. After adopting the new signal system, railway will be slashing usage of electricity by 80 units per day.
