Totladoh reservoir that caters to the water demand of the city is now going to be full soon because of ongoing monsoon activities in the region. Nagpur district is getting good monsoon rains from last many days which raised the live water storage of Totladoh dam more than 90 per cent. Keeping the water level of the dam in mind, the administration in last two days opened 10 out of 16 gates of the dam to avoid any damage to the reservoir.
On August 15, four gates were opened upto 0.30 metres and on Sunday six more gates were lifted to 0.30 mts. As per one inter-State agreement by Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra Governments, the water stored in Totladoh dam is used for electricity generation by Madhya Pradesh Government, while Maharashtra use this water for irrigation purpose. Madhya Pradesh Government also constructed Chaurai dam in Chhindwara district. The Chaurai dam is now full due to heavy rains in MP. The administration of Chaurai dam opened the gates and the water then enters in Totladoh dam which raises the water level.
“Heavy rains in MP raised the water level in Totladoh dam more than 95 per cent which caused opening of 10 gates,” informed R M Dhote, Sub Divisional Engineer, Water Resource Department to The Hitavada. According to him, four gates of the dam were opened on August 15 at 7.30 am and again six more gates were opened on Sunday at 11 am due to increase in water level.
