Mayor Sandip Joshi frowned upon citizens for not adhering to State Government’s guidelines relating to wearing masks and avoiding crowding at market places. On Sunday, the Mayor took a ride across city in his vehicle just to take a general view vis-a-vis COVID-19 situation. At many places, people were seen moving around flouting mask norm as if the virus threat is unreal.
At every other place that the Mayor toured, he was left aghast at casualness on part of Nagpurians even as the positive cases are hitting new record high every passing day. On top of that daily deaths also are hovering in range 20 to 40 persons in city and yet shocking apathy from citizens on basic safety norms left Joshi worried about health status of all. Using the public announcement system, Joshi reprimanded citizens wherever they were found sans masks, a must safety feature for their own health as well as that of others. The absence of social distancing in shops was rampant in all the city markets and the scenes were quite disturbing in light of virus cases peaking in Nagpur.
He continued to appeal to good senses of citizens repeatedly pleading with them not to act in casual way while in public places and strictly follow the guidelines for COVID-19. Mayor said, “If citizens continue to take basic precautions then they are not only safe but also their family members and people in their contact remain hale and hearty. But any attempt to belittle the threat of COVID-19 could result in havoc in their families first and in locality at later stage. Therefore it's high time that citizens recognise their duties and co-operate with civic authorities and help keep the fatalities and positive cases at bare minimum.”
