Torrential rains forced the administration of Rani Avanti Bai Sagar Pariyojana, Bargi Dam to increase water discharging upto 7,480 cumecs from 17 spillway gates, till 7 pm on Saturday. The reservoir was 97.89 per cent filled upto 422.45-metre against the maximum height of 422.76-metres. Water discharging was started from 17 of the 21 gates from gate number 5 to 17 from average opening height of 2.59-metres.
 
Water discharging may be increased or reduced after monitoring of the situation under the direction of senior officers. Executive Engineer of Bargi Dam, Ajay Sure informed that rapidly increasing inflow of water suddenly rouse the level of the reservoir upto 422.45-metres. Taking a serious note on rising water level, opening height of spillway gates was increased upto 2.59-metres for water discharging 6,801 cumec from the reservoir. Water discharging may be increased or decreased after reviewing the downpour in catchment areas of river Narmada.
 
Till 7 pm on Saturday, water inflow into the reservoir was reported upto 7,300 cumec. Along with the water discharging from the gates of reservoir, the hydel power station of Madhya Pradesh State Electricity Board (MPSEB) was operating on its full load capacity of 90 MW. Water discharging from the hydel power project and two canals was being carried out upto 7,063 cusec.
