Flood situation grim in Bhandara district

Following heavy rains from last two days, release of water from Sanjay Sarovar, Gosikhurd and Bawanthadi dams, the backwater of Wainganga river gushed into many localities and villages in Bhandara city, Paoni and Lakhandur tehsil, creating a flood-like situation. As per preliminary reports, about 2,646 families of 58 villages have been affected. The road connectivity between Sakoli – Bhandara was snapped as there was about three feet water flowing over the National Highway near Bhilewada. Similar was the situation near Bela on Nagpur Road that threw the normal life out of gear.
 
In Jawharnagar Pipri, the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) has evacuated 600 people to safer places . Similarly, 700 flood -affected people were rescued from Tumsar and Mohadi tehsil. The relief and rescue work was going on till last reports came in. Collector Sandeep Kadam accompanied by authorities concerned has himself moved to flood-affected places and took stock of the relief work. In Bhandara, 23 villages 1790 families were affected. Likewise in Paoni tehsil, 505 families of 22 villages, 127 families of Tumsar tehsil, 167 families in Mohadi tehsil, 57 families of Lakhandur tehsil had got affected. In Bhandara City the relief and recue team members were engaged in distribution of food packets to the people stuck in their homes in the flood affected localities of Ganeshpur, Gayatri Nagar, Gujarati Colony, Gupta Garden Area, BTB Sabji Mandi, Professor Colony, Pragati Colony, Rukhmini Nagar, Gramsewak Colony, Bhojapur, Bela, Yashoda City and others.
 
There was couple of feets water logging at Bhandara Bus Stand. The area behind the Shriram City was completely under flood waters. According to Police Inspector Gajanan Kankale, the homes were submerged about 8 to 10 feet in water . The Ranzi Ganesha Temple in Paoni situated on the bank of Wainganga River was completely under water. Yesterday there was about three fete water in thetemple but today that was raised to about 10 feets. The Wainganga River was flowing in spate, the old bridge on Kardha was completely submerged under the water.
 
There was long queue of vehicles on National Highway – 6 , the water was flowing about three feets on NH – 6 disrupting the road traffic completely. Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Nana Patole, MP Sunil Mendhe, MLA Narendra Bhondekar paid visit to the affected villages and they saw the disaster caused due to flood waters. 1,282 affected people shifted to safer places In Gondia district 1,282 affected people from 30 villages were shifted to safer places by the District Search and Rescue team.
