‘Ethics are important for being professional’

In a webinar on “Revised Code of Ethics” organised recently by the Nagpur branch of WIRC of ICAI, CA Abhijit Kelkar, Regional Council Member, said that Ethics are very important for being professional. “I believe that the recent lockdown was a period of introspection and also a period to learn ethics as, if you are not ethical, you cannot be a professional”. He also congratulated the members attending the webinar for showing due commitment to the cause of keeping themselves committed to update at all times. He appealed to the members to take maximum benefit from the deliberations through such webinars of the Nagpur Branch.
 
Expressing his views, CA Kirit N Kalyani, Chairman of Nagpur Branch, said that in the testing times because of unfortunate health crisis in the form of COVID 19, members were missing live seminars for getting due updation in the areas of professional interest. However, webinars organised at regular intervals are serving the purpose, in the best possible manner. He shared that the Nagpur Branch, because of past precedence is fortunate to find best ever faculties to have guidance in the matter of topics concerning the professional lives. “Also, it lends due satisfaction to Team Nagpur because of being duly able to enable the Chartered Accountant members ensure enviable edge at all times,” he added remarked. He also duly recognised the commitment to serve the cause of profession of CA Kemisha Soni, Central Council Member ICAI, Indore and CA Mangesh Kinare, former Central Council Member, Mumbai, for guiding the members.
 
CA Kemisha Soni guided the members by bringing to fore the comparision of existing code of ethics with the revised ones. She conveyed that Volume I, which is revised counterpart of Part A of the Code of Ethics 2009, is suitably based on IESBA Code of Ethics, 2018. She said that the revised code, segregated in three volumes are applicable from July 1, 2020. She appealed the members that every professional must be aware of the code of ethics and went further to add that – ‘Ignorance of Law is No Excuse’. Soni also effectively dealt with the Volume I of the Code.
 
CA Mangesh Kinare duly considered the Ethics Standards issued by International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) while framing Code of Ethics for CAs. He continued with his effective deliberation and conveyed that coverage of Volume II is vast. “It comprises each and every expected guideline for a Chartered Accountant,” he said. He appealed to the mebers to give due consideration to the discussion as the penal provisions in the matter of violation of provisions, can be avoided by having proper knowledge. CA Suren Duragkar, Past Chairman, co-ordinated the proceedings of the webinar and also proposed the formal vote of thanks. CA. Saket Bagdia, Vice Chairman, and CA Akshay Gulhane, Chairman WICASA, introduced the faculties. Present on the occasion were CA Sanjay Agrawal, Treasurer, Nagpur Branch, CA Harish Rangwani, Executive Member, CA Vikas Baheti, CA Prafull Bagdi, CA Shama Charkha, CA Rakesh Daswani, CA Meera D’Souza , CA Prakash Fulwani and others.
