Tourism Department and Forest Department held a meeting jointly at gate no 4 of Ambazari Biodiversity Park, in front of MIDC Police Station here on Friday in which officers, recognised tour operators, travel agents and guides participated. The meeting was held to promote tourism at this park, which is basically a grassland/wetland situated in 758 hectares of land on the outskirts of the city. Forest Department opened this park for public and tourists in 2019 with the facilities like cycle safari, e-rickshaw, binoculars, bird safari, bird watching etc.
As many as 161 species of birds -- resident and migratory -- are found in Ambazari Biodiversity Park. There are also 104 species of butterflies, 18 species of grass, fish, water body, watch towers, cabins, water deck, nesting stands, adventure sports for children, open theatres, trees etc. The park is open daily from 6 am to 6 pm from Tuesday to Sunday, and it is closed on Monday. Ajinkya Bhatkar from WWF (I) wanted that the departments should publicise this park basically as grassland and wetland and not paint a picture of jungle safari because tourists get disappointed when they do not find jungle as such there.
The citizens should take up a movement for protection and conservation of this park, he added.
