Nagpur Metro clocks record ridership of 56,000 on R-Day

Orange and Aqua lines ran jam-packed as holiday ensured citizens making a beeline at metro stations for a memorable ride.
Cash counters of Nagpur Metro kept jingling throughout the day as Nagpurians deprived of any other landmark made most of the holiday on account of Republic Day by patronising the Maazi Metro. A record 56,000 travellers enjoyed the ride on Orange and Aqua lines of Nagpur Metro to have a gala time. The highest ever readership on any single day since Nagpur Metro services started in March last, also in a way fully tested the men and machineries.
 
According to Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited, a total of 56,406 riders was registered on both the lines. The previous best ridership figure was of December 27 last, when Maha Metro had locked in figures of 22,123. The crossing of half a lakh mark is quite significant for Nagpur Metro as it overtook other Metro services in terms of ridership. Also, within a fortnight, the ridership on a holiday has doubled which is in a way sort of a record.
 
Since November last the ridership of Nagpur Metro has been steadily increasing. Various innovative measures by Maha Metro officials proved useful and it was on display on Republic Day when both the lines ran jam-packed throughout the day.
 
Anticipating heavy footfalls due to holiday, Maha Metro had extended travel time by more than an hour on Republic Day to ensure that nobody is left disappointed. Serpentine queues were witnessed since Tuesday morning at metro stations while maximum tickets were sold at Sitabuldi Interchange station. The concourse, platform all witnessed great rush as Nagpurians went on sight-seeking soaking themselves in the relishing the development that has occurred over
the year.
 
The aerial view of the vast swatches of localities, the mesmerising view of the Ambazari lake had the citizens in awe and not to mention the lush green landscape along side Wardha Road was none less than discovery for most.
To spice up the day, Maha Metro had drafted services of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) band that played patriotic tunes. Various stalls were put up at Sitabuldi interchange station to ensure commuters spend quality time on the national holiday.
 
“The fact that Maha Metro offers a range of facilities such as shopping and entertainment activities at its stations added to charm of metro ride,” said Anant Chopra, a businessman, while talking to The Hitavada.
 
Tremendous response to the Maha Metro’s efforts for increasing ridership was supplemented with carnival that was organised to celebrate the Day. Events like drawing contests, skating performances, music programmes, CRPF band, calligraphy show was organised at different Maha Metro stations. Particularly, during evening hours citizens got a glimpse of tri-colour displayed on outer facade of metro stations in line with Republic Day celebrations.
