National Medical Commission (NMC), Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) have approved 100 MBBS seats for Kanker Government Medical College. However, the Board has disapproved the request of Medical Colleges for Korba and Mahasamund.
As per the information received from official sources out of proposed 150 seats of MBBS approval has been provided for 100 seats by the MARB on conditions. In a letter to Dean of Government Medical College, Kanker, it was informed by Member of MARB, NMC that the dean should provide all infrastructural facilities in terms of teaching and non-teaching staff, building, equipment and hospital facilities as per NMC norms. No student should be admitted in the MBBS course till the formal permission of the MARB. The private medical college should provide Bank Guarantee against establishment of new medical colleges with intake of 100 MBBS seats in favour of NMC, New Delhi valid for 5 years or till the course is recognised, whichever is later, from a nationalised bank in accordance with NMC Norms.
However, medical college/institutions covered by the State government are requested to furnish only an undertaking to provide funds in their budget till the facilities are fully provided as per time bound programme indicated by them. The Medical College will provide undertaking to implement the decision regarding payment of stipend during the internship of the Under Graduate students similar to UG sections of Government Medical Colleges in their State.
However, the applications of Dean Government Medical College Mahasamund was disapproved by the MARB as during the virtual hearing on October 18 as committee was not convinced by the facilities. It was mentioned in the observation that Professor of Anatomy, associate professor in Respiratory Medicine Emergency Medicine and Physiology, Associate Professor in Forensic Medicine, in Laboratory equipment were not appointed. Anatomy dissolution table was not there, body chambers and embalming facility was not provided. Therefore, committee has decided not to approve the case.
Similarly, in observation of Korba Medical College it was mentioned that there was no much change in the equipment procurement due to which the committee has decided not to approve. The Principal of Medical College was away from campus and couldn’t show the infrastructure therefore the application was rejected.
