Vidarbha has rich culture of food, music, forts, temples, several historical places, people who have contributed to the country’s freedom. These things remained neglected. Even the youngsters, too, are miles away from them. Most students don’t know several things about this region. Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) will plug this loophole and will try to introduce its students to the rich culture of Vidarbha region through heritage walk. The proposal regarding the heritage walk put by Dinesh Sheram, a Senate Member got unanimous support in Senate meeting held on Friday.
While explaining his stand, Sheram told the house, “We have Bakht Buland Shah, we have Ambagarh in Bhandara, we have rich culture of history. We have forts. The food culture of this region too is very different than the other parts of the State. Unfortunately, our students are not aware of these things. Teaching students through books will not make them understand the history, our ancient culture, the places having historical importance. A walk through various places would surely serve the purpose.”
“India became free 75 years ago and country is celebrating Amrut Mahotsav of Independence. In the wake of this celebration, university, too, can contribute in an unique way. We can take our students to the tourism places, forts, several places having heritage value,” said Sheram.
Adv Manmohan Bajpai, Vishnu Changde, Dr Urmila Dabir, Pravin Udapure, Dr Ajiet Jachak all supported the proposal. Changde suggested to have various committees that would organise various events. For example, one committee would guide for taking students to forts, another committee put the plan for visits to fort etc.
Vice Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari while giving ruling said, “This suggestion is welcomed and should be implemented immediately for
which we have to prepare a plan and the committees under the chairmanship of Dinesh Sheram will do the honour.”
Adv Manmohan Bajpai commented, “The committee should be incorporated by the experts of history, culture who would give a required boost to the plan.” Sheram further stated, “After the heritage walk university should publish the information of the places in detail. I feel the detail information of the heirs of the people who had contributed to India’s freedom fight, should be collected. I also suggest that university should felicitate such personalities.”
Apart from several plans regarding heritage walk, Sheram also appealed Vice Chancellor to hold exhibitions of arts, culture, literature, food culture.
“Many students don’t know about the developments in their respective took place during 1947 and 2021,He also suggested to hold contest for students where they would prepare short films on various events in the history and present them. The best one should be given the prize,” felt Sheram.
