Fifth international and 20th national conference (iNaCoMM 2021) was inaugurated at Pandit Dwarka Prasad Mishra Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing Jabalpur, focusing on the recent advancements in the field of Machines and Mechanisms. Dr. S. Unnikrishnan Nair, Director, Human Space Flight Centre graced the event as chief guest while Professor C. Amarnath Emeritus Professor, IIT Bombay and President, Association for Machines and Mechanisms (AMM) motivated young minds to innovate products and believe in DIY. Director, PDPM IIITDM J, Professor PN Kondekar welcomed the dignitaries. Conference Chair Professor Vijay Kumar Gupta shared about the journey of the conference which started in 2019 with iNaCoMM 2019 where the baton was handed over to IIITDM Jabalpur. Dr. Unnikrishnan Nair in his inaugural talk, discussed the India’s dream of Gaganyan to send human in space, challenges in sending the humans, associated safety aspects and human health monitoring. He informed that the basic challenge is take care of microgravity in space and reducing the high acceleration during the takeoff. Various mechanisms used in Gaganyan were shown to the audience.
 
He told that Gaganyan will have new systems for the crew’s life support and discussed about three systems including launching, in space movement and safe landing on earth after re-entry. The inaugural talk was chaired by Professor Aparajita Ojha. First plenary talk was delivered by Professor G Carbone from University of Calabria, Italy who talked about the robots for rehabilitation. He shared about various support systems which can help in carrying out physiotherapy exercises by the patients suffering from stroke. Professor Tanuja Sheorey chaired the session.
 
There were 03 oral sessions and 01 poster session which were focused on ‘Synthesis of Mechanism’, ‘Mechanisms for Biomedical Applications’. Total 13 oral papers and 08 poster papers were presented during the first day. Noted researchers from across the country including Professor Ashitava Ghosal, Professor Ananth Suresh and Professor Jayant from IISc, Professor Chandrasekhara from PES University, Professor Sandipan from IIT Madras, Professor Ankita Chugh from AIIMS Jodhpur and Rajeevalochana from Amrita chaired the sessions.
