Despite opposition, State School Education Department is firm on holding exams offline
Last time Maharashtra’s School Education Department had given a lot of relaxations to parents and students regarding examinations of SSC and HSC. This time, the department is in no mood to give such concession. The examinations will be conducted off-line. As per the announcement, now Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) examination will begin on March 4 and will end on April 7, 2022. Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination will be held between March 15 and April 18, 2022. Due to COVID-19, the curriculum was earlier cut by 25 per cent. Questions will only be from this reduced syllabus. The Government is very much assertive on the issue of declaration of result. It is trying to announce the HSC results by the second week of June, 2022 and SSC results by the second week of July, 2022. All COVID-19 safety norms will be followed. Practical examinations, grade, orals and internal assessments for HSC students will be conducted from February 14 to March 3.
The practicals, orals for SSC students, will begin on February 25 and will conclude on March 14, 2022. The Board has made it clear that detailed time table for examinations will be released later. Some students on condition of anonymity expressed their disappointment while talking to ‘The Hitavada’ as Government is holding the examinations offline. According to these students coronavirus has not gone completely. To add to the woes of public now the cases of Omicron are on rise. Students have launched an online campaign on Twitter and urged the state government to hold the Maharashtra SSC, HSC Board Exam 2022 online. Parents too are not happy with the decision of offline examinations. Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) is firm in holding examinations offline. Government argued that decision of holding the examinations offline mode was taken after taking the stakeholders like schools, principals, headmasters, teachers and experts into confidence.
Some students expressed their fear that they are not prepared for writing offline examinations. Some students also claimed that the teachers were teaching in a hurried manner with a motto to cover the syllabus on time. Compared to previous years, the schedule of board exams has been changed and it is extended by two weeks. This change was introduced to make schools complete their syllabus.
