CITY’S women shuttlers Malvika Bansod and Mugdha Agrey made winning starts while men, who made it to the main draw after tough qualifiers lost their first round matches of the BAI Series Senior Badminton Tournament under way in at Hyderabad, on Monday. Second seed Malvika made short work of Haryana’s Devika Sihag in straight games 12-21, 14-21 to enter pre-quarterfinals. However, in her opening round match, the southpaw was given a tough fight by Telanaga State’s unseeded Meghana Reddy M.
 
The better ranked player had to play her A game to prevail in the see-saw match. Malvika won 21-14, 14-21, 14-21. In the last-16 match, the city lass plays Likhita Srivastava of Delhi. Tenth seed Mugdha found her form in the first round recording a straight games win over Akanksha Matte 21-15, 21-10. She was scheduled to play her second round match against Tanishq M. In the men’s section, Rohan Gurbani found third seed too hot to handle and went down rather tamely in 27-minute match 21-10, 21-6. Nabeel Ahmed also could not cross the first barrier losing 21-16, 21-12 to seventh seed Siddharth Pratap Singh in 38 minutes.
