Bangladeshis? A hard nut to crack for city police

 

 

 

AFTER rescuing 11 Bangladeshi nationals along with five children from Ahmedabad-bound train on November 24, the City Police are finding it difficult to deport them to their home country. Some of the rescued persons have refused to accept that they are residents of Bangladesh. Of the 11 rescued persons, only two women have, so far, confessed to being citizens of Bangladesh, a police official said. Four persons are allegedly misleading the police by claiming to be residents of Kutch in Gujarat while five as citizens of West Bengal. “It would be difficult for the police to prove that these people are residents of Bangladesh,” said an official.

 

The police are contacting the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kutch in Gujarat and districts of West Bengal to ascertain whether the people are residents of that particular area. Copies of documents of these people will be sent to the district police concerned for verification, the official said. The police have contacted Immigration Department for further processing. It may be mentioned that a joint team of Nagpur Police and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had rescued 11 Bangladeshi nationals along with five children from a Ahmedabad-bound train at Nagpur railway station on November 24. These people were being allegedly trafficked to Gujarat for labour work and flesh trade.

 

The action was initiated by the police on the basis of instructions received from Mumbai. After questioning the persons, the police had identified two persons who are operating the human trafficking network. One of them is a resident of West Bengal, the police said. These persons are yet to be arrested by the police. Some gangs are illegally bringing people from Bangladesh and giving them bogus Indian identification cards like passport, Aadhaar and PAN on the basis of forged documents to infiltrate into India, police said.
