NAGPUR Police are preparing a proposal to establish two new police stations at Garoba Maidan and Bhandewadi in east Nagpur. The Garoba Maidan Police Station will cover a densely populated area while Bhandewadi PS will be formed on the outskirts of the city. Formation of the new police stations will help in curbing the soaring crime graph in market areas as well as on outskirts of the city, top police officials believe.

Top cops informed ‘The Hitavada’ that suggestions for formation of the new police stations were received from public representatives, recently. As per the plan, Bhandewadi police station will be formed by carving out existing parts of Pardi and Wathoda police stations while Garoba Maidan Police Station will include parts of Lakadganj and Kotwali police stations. The existing police station officers have received letters from top officials seeking information on 15 points that include jurisdiction, required manpower, proposed land, expenditure, vehicles and others. Due to growing urbanisation, intensive patrolling in the residential areas is the need of hour. However, the cops are unable to patrol entire jurisdiction due to heavy work load and also vast jurisdiction, officials said. Sources claimed that the residents of Bhandewadi areas finding it tough to reach out the police as Wathoda and Pardi police station are at a long distance. Same situation exists in the Garoba Maidan area.

Will Bazargaon PS ever see light of the day? State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had announced in December last year that Bazargaon police station would be established within a month. However, the police station is yet to be formed. Sources claimed that a proposal for the new police station was sent to State Home Department and the office of Director General of Police. But Gazette notification for the new police is yet to be released. The administrative delay, despite the assurance and announcement from the Home Minister, has raised doubts over the establishing of the new police station.
